Obstruction_ Closing the quarter of Tarlabaşı

Tarlabaşı neighborhood was the Greek quarter before 1930. After the departure of this community, who build the whole neighborhood, immigrants from East Anatolia came to live there. A great part of them are Kurdish or Gypsy. In the late 80's, two high speed ways for car were build in the west and in the east of the neighborhood. Tarlabaşı bulvari and Dolapdere Caddesi disconnect the quarter from the rest of the city by letting a really few pedestrian and car access to the other part of the city. These few access are not fluent and create obstruction : for example, pedestrians have to take bridge or tunel to cross the streets. Then in the 90's, an urban renovation in the northern part created a great separation between the old urban pattern and the new one. The old urban pattern also means the way of living in the quarter, so it changes the building and in the same time the inhabitants. The last obstruction is the state of the pavement which obligates the people to walk on the road. This makes the quarter not easy to access and difficult to cross.
